Diastasis Recti....

Diastasis Rectus Abdominis (DRA) is an increase in the distance between the right and left rectus abdominus muscles. The muscles are connected by the linea alba, which is connective tissue that may become thinner, lengthened, or weakened. This often happens at the end of pregnancy and may heal on its own, but may not. DRA can be found in men and children as well.

DRA has been linked to post partum depression as some women have expressed disastisfaction with the doming that often occurs w/ DRA, an increase in back pain and urinary incontinence. DRA can make losing weight harder and increase PP anxiety as well.

Treating DRA early after delivery can promote overall improved pelvic floor function and strength while caring for your new baby as well as preventing bowel and bladder issues and pelvic organ prolapse in the future. Treating DRA is not as simple as doing a ton of abdominal exercises, it needs a complete assessment and a skilled pelvic floor therapist to assess and address the muscle dysfunction.

If you think you have rectus diastasis and ready to address the muscles, lets get you scheduled and on the road to recovery and optimized health and wellness.
